Hi there, can anyone help! my frontera has an intermittant problem it will start fine then after a while it will loose power the engine check light comes on and it throws out white smoke out of the exhaust, it seems to happen when you put it under load, also it will not rev very high when this happens! any sudgestions?

Could be your vacuum hoses or the MAF unit. The hoses are prone to perishing. The earlier MAF Mass Air Flow sensors also were troublesome. You looking at £140ish for the MAF unit, unless you can source on cheaper else where.

the ECU light coming on is in deed the Airflow meter
these early models suffered from a bad batch
the engine will go it 'limp home mode'
this is why you have no power
i would expect the next bit to read
'after stopping and starting it seems fine again'
until i hit a hill or boot it
