My Astra has been hit in the front, and when I turn the engine off, I can hear a post whine in the engine. The radiator is smashed to bits, as are the cooling fans.

Does the 2002 TS Astra have a thermo fan like the BMW's do?

Thanks for any help.

The car is a two door auto Equippe with 92K.

All Astras have electric fans controlled by a small computer and can/will run on after engine switch off. I guess the BMWs have something similar.

Mine does the same thing. I think it is to do with the emission control system, possibly the carbon cannister thing under the drivers side wing and a valve operating when you switch off the engine. It's like a whining noise that goes away after 3 seconds.
