Thought I might as well start a thread about my new motor.

I wasn't looking for a new car specifically but I'd had a crap month or two so I thought I might as well treat myself to something a bit more luxurious than the Super-Shed. I just missed out on a 70k SRi 16v, then spotted this GSi 4x4 in the for sale section on here. It had been up for sale since December with a couple of problems but looked decent to me. I went down to Fareham to see the owner Graham. On inspection the car looked good so I agreed to buy it if he would MOT the car for me. It passed first time with only advisories on the wipers, exhaust and a bit of rust on the chassis rail.

Graham also had a 2wd GSi in the same colour he offered me as part of the deal, I couldn't take it but I did get a pile of parts off it.

So for £570 I got: The GSi, a full Magnex stainless system (2wd), spare GM Xe head, manifold, door cards, trip computer, electric sunroof, standard GSi black panel, spare drivers seat and spare clocks.

The GSi is in very good condition, with five pervious owners and 100k on the clock. It has never been welded and the underside is excellent. I'm going to be waxoyling it over the summer, along with replacing the arches. There is no rust anywhere else. Over the years this car has had a fortune spent on it, I have a massive pile of receipts with one coming to £1249 and another £681. It's even got the original pre-delivery inspection document from 1991. Graham replaced the head for the one off the 2wd as it was suspected of being porous and the engine does not tap at all. He also fitted four brand new 205/55 Firestone tyres to it as well, so I've got a bit of a bargain.

It drives very well although the 4wd fuse is pulled at the moment as I suspect it needs an accumulator bulb. It has the very rare option of air con too, and this doesn't work either. I'm getting it serviced next month up in Scotland. The engine feels pretty tight and you can definately tell this is a much heavier car than say a 8v SRi. Returns 31mpg on a run which ain't bad.

First jobs will be to give it the 'whoosh' test, fit the new drivers seat, a new heater blower switch, change the rear panel to standard, get a bonnet badge, de-badge the front grille, change the gearknob (falling to bits), remove the cat. Oh, and clean the thing! I'm not lowering it as the roads around here are terrible.

Overall, I'm very pleased so far.

I got you two door cards.

Was hoping to do a tech feature in the mag on the 4x4 system and servicing it. That's how I'm getting the air con working again! Depends if any specialists are up for it. Waiting on a response from VTS. Think it's just the bulb that's needing changed anyway.

Edit: Dunc, no I don't. The shed belongs to a friend in Hampshire, we just stopped off there on the way back from getting the car. :D

Very nice set Dougie...GSi needs some black on those exterior plastics though.

I like the 2.0 L hatch alot...the sleeper look with the SEH, GSi rims and late spec SRI interior...where is the 130 and the Yellow Mk2 you just bought recently?

This is the Super-Shed Bought for £60 with SEH and close ratio box already fitted. Has done 4000 miles since December! Handy for lifting all those parts and stuff. The wheels in the back aren't mine, they're now on Andy's mk3 SRi 16v.

The 130 has been garaged since the end of September and will be out in May. Needs a bit work but nothing major.

The yellow GLS is taxed and on the road, going for a front valance and possibly to have the vinyl roof removed for show season.

I've got the 14's and original spec wheel trims in the garage. Really need a grey grille instead of a black one too.

Cool, As to VBOA, i will be at another meet near Leek that day, so will have to work something else out mate.

Where are you based.? Im out and about up and down the country next week picking up parts etc, so could possibly pop in if my routes are nearby.

EDIT, just noticed Bath. Need to check my routes.
