I changed my XE sump to a tin one from an 8v to try and stop the oil leaking.

However, the dipstick will now catch on something unless I move it a certain way around. It sounds like it's hitting the crank!

Also, if I turn the dipstick one way, the oil appears to be well above max, and the other way it won't even pick any up!

Are the dipsticks different on the 8v's? Are they shallower/deeper or something?

They have different part numbers. Just checking to see if the lengths are different for you.

90410094 - C20 LET/20XE OIL LEVEL INDICATOR
90502254 - 20SEH (plus most other Vauxhall engines 2.0 downwards)

Can't tell if the lengths are different, but as the part numbers are different, i'd say you need to try an SEH one mate to match the sump.

I guess the sump must be a bit shallower on an 8v then

Typical :lmao:

I would hazard a guess to them being different due to different sump designs. But an interesting piont probablky worth noting to anyone who does that in the future!

I didn't fit it, so I didn't get to compare the two. Wish I had of though.

Guess I better try and find an 8v dipstick from somewhere....

Actually, just thinking about it, does the SEH dipstick number match anything like the 1.8 etc? Might be easier to find one of them in a scrappy......

Sean, I have a 20SEH and a C18NZ and the dipsticks are exactly the same.
