Hi,

A friend of mine has been advised that they will need to pay £1500 for a new diesel pump for a 1995 vectra 1.7 td. This sounds suspicious to me. I understand that some coding is required at a Vauxhall garage. Can anyone throw some light on this one?

thanks,

Paul

better off getting a pump from a 1.7 td cav in the scrappers , 93 -94 model without the immobiliser & this will fit straight on & 1 wire to the ignition , job sorted.

Unfortunatly the only suspicious thing there is how much of a profit Vauxhall must be making on deisel pumps.

My diesel pump has gone and i got quotes from about 5 different Vauxhall dealers, all around £1800-1900 mark. So the price is right im afraid but a big rip off still.

And as far as im aware you have to get the same type of pump which will then need to be recoded to you vehicles ECU.

Hope that helps.

you would have to have the exact pmp for a di or dti , but the 1700 ones you can use the cav td pump no probs.

A mate of mines just had his rebuilt at local deisel specialist and it cost him £1000 all in.
He was told by the main dealer and the specialist that you cant fit secondhand as the pump cant be re-coded. Once its coded thats it.

Do a search for diesel pump on the vectra forum. I know nowt about cars so wont offer any advice, but when you read the threads posted by mister t, he has got some excellent knowledge on the subject.

He's right, Mister T certainly knows his stuff about diesels. And the pumps CAN be re-coded to another car, you just need the right equipement. I think it costs somewhere near the £100 mark.
