Just had a call from the wife saying the clutch has gone in the Astra. I'm currently at work so will need to get this fixed tonight so ha e told her to go and buy a new master cylinder on the basis that if it's not that we can return it.

Reason being that last year I changed the clutch flywheel and csc so can only assume it's the master clylinder.

Does that sound reasonable? Surely the csc couldn't fail again in less than a year?

Told her to look for fluid pissing out but she can't even open the bonnet so that was a non starter really until I can get home lol

If the CSC has failed completely then you want to be having a look underneath for a leak. I think I've only ever changed one master on these so it's not at all a common thing. I wouldn't expect a CSC to fail in that short a time. What brand was fitted? Did you squeeze the cylinder prior to fitting?

Yeh she's leaking right between the block and bell housing so I'm sure that's the culprit.

Nope didn't squeeze it as I read that can bugger the seals on it.

Should I have squeezed it?

I've seen cheap csc's fail as little at 6 weeks old. Tbh I've never known one last longer than 18 months on the astra /zafira. You get what you pay for with csc's.

Really!?

That's shocking considering how much of a pain it is to change.

So basically genuine vaux is the only way to go?

It came with the clutch kit but can't remember what brand it was but it wasn't genuine. The dmf was a luk but the clutch wasnt

Carparts4less are showing it listed but not in stock, worth dropping them a line to see if they can get it £83.81 with the code august10

Sachs any good? Luk and fte seem to be out of stock everywhere
I honestly don't know mate, I'm just a diy mechanic and used LUK kits on both of my vauxhalls when they needed doing as I know that's who Vauxhall use for their clutches

@M32Guy can probably give a better opinion
