Hi all,

Can someone confirm whether I can change the thermo' on my Astra 1.6 8v (1999 -T) without actually removing/changing the cambelt!?!?

What I know of the thermo is behind/around the cambelt!

The cambelt was changed by last owner and less than 20k ago, so really don't want dish out for another cambelt and labour charge for it (unless I have to)!

Had mine done recently and if the same engine X16SZR 1998 1.6 8v auto, you will need to remove the timing belt and as most will tell you change the waterpump as well.

Hi Mate .. like 23 said there is no other way ... if you want the instant quick fix, block off the lower grille (see these boards for advice) & warm up your car for 10 mins in the morning before you go. Sounds daft but you will have heat & retain heat. If you do the thermostat, may as well do the belt & water pump. Good design NOT !
