Astra door hinge mechanism

Hello All,

My 99 Astra has a very stiff drivers door. It seems to be to do with the metal rod that goes into the door itself. When full openend I'm not sure if this is connected to anything inside the door as there is wobble in it. I was just wondering if this was a difficult or expensive part to replace?

Thanks

Brian

It does sounds (to me) as though the door has been clouted. Try putting grease all over the hinge , try to work it inside the gaps. If the noise/problem persists, a spot of door removal and hinge "bending" may be on the cards

The 'door check strap', as the metal rod is called, can wear out. In the past I've changed a couple on Peugeots I used to own.

They are straightforward to change, but you do need to remove the trim from the door to gain access. I don't know what the cost on the Astra would be, but on the Peugeot the part was about ÂŁ14.

I use spray grease on the hinges and check strap which usually keeps them ok.
