Hi, hope someone can offer some advice regarding my daughters car. Its on an 08 plate.

Most of the time it runs and drives really smoothly. Just now and again when going up a hill it stays at about 20mph. The auto box won't change and it trundles up hill building traffic up behind her. She has to pull over, switch off and then start up, after about a minute it normally clears and is fine. As we live in a valley this is becoming a problem and seems to be happening more frequently.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Check the auto transmission fluid levels per the owner's manual procedures. Observe the colour and smell of the fluid.

With the engine dead cold, check the antifreeze in the clear overflow tank. Do NOT open when hot or even warm or you will get burned badly. The antifreeze should be clean, translucent, with no oily or bubbly top layer. The 1.8 auto boxes had a bad radiator which mixed antifreeze and transmission fluid, so that is a possibility.

Check for any stored codes.
