Hi there
im new to this forum and need some advice please
i have just bought an Astravan on an 04 plate its one of the last "old shape" ones

it is a 1.7 cdti and it has done approx 65,000 miles, seems to go ok and im pleased with it.

My question is, does it need a new cam belt at this sort of mileage ?
does it have a belt or a chain?

Dunno if its cam chain or belt, but if its belt then I would deffo get it done.

Yes, its a cambelt, i would get it changed.

ive read up and heard its 80k and some say 100k for the cdti 1.7 engine
its having an oil and filter change and an engine flush and tho i dont mind having to get it done at 65k , i dont really want to spend the money on a belt if its way premature ?
can anyone confirm the recommended milage to change one of these engine belts plse

i belive its 100k, but in my opinion, if its starting to worry you, get it done, for peace of mind. you may not be flush at the mo, but not many people are, and at the end of the day, what would you prefer to pay, the cost of cambelt kit replacment?, £100 inc labour, or the cost of a new engine? ££££'s

i have the same van, had to replace the engine, cant remember what the reason was?? but any way it more less blew up.. get it changed better b safe then sorry

Its a 5 yr old van low mileage for a diesel but rubber perishes so replace the belt, it may require a full kit with tensioners too but check with vauxhall if so.
