Hi . I have an Omega 2.0L petrol which is blowing fuse 14. I know this problem was listed before but I need some additional advise

My Air con problem started 2 weeks after I got a new windscreen. I had damp in the passanger footwell but this seemed to caused by a blocked drain beside the pollen filter. When you look at the metal grill between the bottom of the windscreen and the bonnet I can see some of the wiring loom exposed. Rain running of the windscreen can drain straight down onto the wiring loom. My Opel service manager thought this was unusual but that it wouldn't cause an electrical problem ? Do you agree ? Will water on wires not follow the wire to the lowest point ?

Are there any wires in the vincinity of the windscreen that conect to the air con unit that could have been damaged when it was been fitted . If the windscrren has being misfitted and is causing this problem then my insurance will cover the repair of the air con.

Sorry for the long winded post.. any advise gratefully appreciated!

Hello,

The wires in the scuttle area are covered in a sheath, and a sturdy rubber bung should stop water running into the car.

When the scuttle area is blocked, water does flow in, via the heater fan and into the footwell, it may be a possibility that the fan motor is fried, thus blowing fues 14 constantly.

If you have a CDX, windscreen replacement could have damaged the Light sensor, but I personally think the fan motor is more likely at fault.

James

Erratic off/on

Hi James

My omega is an elegance

Thanks for your reply. I just checked the scuttle area and the wires lying over the pollen filter are not covered in a sheath and are damp. Some of the loom wires do have a sheath but not all. I think I'll take a picture of the scuttle area wires and post it if that would help.

When I was coming home the other night ( the last time it worked) the system would shut down as soon as I came to a stop at a junction and would only turn on when the car was moving again. The back demister worked but the front one didn't . Could this indicate this a voltage problem ? The fan would only work for a few minutes and then the whole air con shut down . When I turned off the engine the fan would work when I pressed the auto switch ....it never worked with the engine off before I had this problem

Is there an electrical connection on the windscreen for the front demister . I was watching the guy replace the windscreen and I don't remember seeing any connections ( Like the rear windscreen connectors)
Regards

David

Hello,

I remember more fabric type tape being around them, I'll check the scuttle area of my 2.0 at some point, I'm pretty sure my V6 had the cables wrapped in a fabric type wrap. May be worth chucking some insulation tape round them to be safe.

Something else I'd check if your getting really weird body function issues, is the voltage coming off the alternator. If this is too high, there can be some really weird things going on inside the car.

James

PS - Mate of mine has a very very nice Short wheel base Z32 300ZX TT, this is the one I'd love to own!!!

Rang an independent air con specialist to get price of regas. He advised that it could be the condenser . He said the current could earth through it ! I was going to wait and get the air con regassed after the electrics were fixed -now I think I'll get it regassed first and see if the gas man can save me from the Opel Dealer rip off!!
