I just spotted a 3.0 V6 which has potential

Unfortunately it needs a 3.0 ecu which are 600ukp exchange!!! Does anyone know if the 2.6 ecu can be re chipped to suit? my feeling that even if it can, i would still be looking at £500 for a decent rr session!!...out of my price bracket......
imagine this with throttle bodies at £3500:

Decent brakes .............
then a lightened flywheel...........
Then a gasket set, then get the engine fitted..........

Why? in theory it is cheaper than a remap(of the 2.5 ecu) that isn't required for a std 3.0 unit!! or is there another reason?
Because you have to fit the 2.5 plenum units etc and the ECU controls when the butterflies open etc, and the 3.0 will do it a whole different way.

As far as I'm aware the 2.6 ecu not only has a different program but also has a different connector.

I picked up a spare 3.0 v6 ecu from eba a while ago, they are hard to get hold of (only got mine to keep as a spare)
When you do go looking for an ecu, make sure that you get the chip and transponder (bit thats clips around the ignition)
Only takes approx 30 secs to change!
