Hi - newbie here with one of the above

Checked the levels yesterday - oil was well down, and the expansion bottle was full of goo.

Obviously a HGF or similar, but is this common on this engine? It's a 53 plate, done 60k.

Or is it maybe something else? TIA.

I had the same problem turned out to be the oil cooler which is mounted on the front of the block cost about 100 pound to replace if your not gettin any other signs overheating steam out the exhaust coolant system getting over pressurised etc it may be the cooler

I thought only auto's had oil coolers, please correct me if i'm wrong, if its a manual why the oil cooler?

No mines a manual they all have them the diesels are pretty reliable the v6 petrols are the worst spoke to someone at vauxhalls they said they dont really need them for this country but its cheaper to leave them on .If you look betwwen the block and the radiator cowling its a silver aluminium block about six inches by three directly underneath the oil filter housing.
