Please don’t take offence but it is a 1.7 diesel van not a sports car, why would you want to make the turbo louder?

 

aha no offence taken 😆 first car that ive owned with a turbo and hearing the turbos induction noise makes me smile, making it slightly louder is just small personal project and would make driving about slightly more enjoyable IMO 😄

 

The only way your gonna get turbo whistle is with a strait thru exhaust.

 

My friend owns a straight-piped 320d and the turbo whistle is obnoxiously loud and I would like to avoid the whistle as much as I can 😆 only really after more noise from the cold side, but if i cant really do much then the cat will be the next thing to go 🙂

 

You can buy cone filters specifically designed to make the woosh noise.
I had a Citroen c4 a while back with the cone filter fitted directly to the turbo and the exhaust pipe direct from the turbo coming thru the bonnet! That had a distinctive sound. Also got distinctive looks from people!

 

That must've looked dope haha 😆 did you have to move the MAF sensor closer? (Turbo -> MAF -> Cone Filter) I tried test driving without the intake pipe + MAF, just the turbo on its own but felt way off and didn't rev up properly.

 

Yea I had a little black box of tricks that replaced the maf sensor.

I don't think it will like it if you move the maf sensor either. They are normally by the filter as that's where there's less turbulence. I would visit your local tuning shop to see what filter they recommend.
A lot diesels tend to make a horrid groaning sound when idling, when you start messing with induction.
