Hi, ive used these forums before to solve problems, but i cant find what i want about my power steering pump.

Its a y plate 2001, diesel 2.0 dt elegence. zafira.

ive lost all power steering, so i removed the pump out the top, just removing the diesel filters to give me room. Got it to work today and stripped it down, we found that the earth was at fault, where the pcb is fixed to the casing was corroded, breaking the circuit.

What i would like to know is the wiring layout. 2 main supply cable, pos to fuse box and neg to bat. but the 3 small wires that connect in a plug that clips on the botttom of the fuse box. If i know what they do, guessing the brown is a earth, i can bench test the motor before fitting it back in the car. removing that from the equation if the pump still wont run.

Its a TRW Generation 2 Type it fits Astra-G and Zafira-A models?

    Any help would be great,

    Thanks, Pete

Thats good about it not having can bus, i have to try and fault find that at work, on container handling plant. Which is a pain.

So if i bench test it,

    Power leads to a battery,

Then put a feed on the the black for igintion,

then put a second feed to the blue and white, and it should run??

Ill have to cheek the colours as i can remember if mine are the same, and pump is at work.

    Astravan PAS

I've got the same problem ie sudden loss of PAS with no warning whilst driving.
Checked out all the suggestions so far including the one above and the readings (on tickover) are:-
Power Earth (red and Brown) 14.8v
Voltage of alternator (blue and White)13.2v
    Diagnostic (Brown and White)12.8v
Inginition (black??) 0v - This looks to be the return.
    Fuse 23 is good.
    Fluid levels good.
Is there anything I've missed or must I resign myself to a new pump?

I look forward to my first reply.
    Merry Christmas.

Solo33, i just fitted a ebay special for £30, and it worked! i thought it was worth the risk for that amount. I brought an astra one which was cheaper, than a zafira one. Just check the photos to match it.

As for the fault, the main fuse for the pump on mine was the 2nd 80 amp fuse up in the engine fuse box, the small 3 wire connect is under that fuse box, ill double check what voltage is on each core tommorrow, if there aint to much snow.

The pump can defo come out the top, remove the trim that covers the wiper mech to give u move room, and remove the diesel filter, a small amount of fuel will leak out but not much, and take the battery out to make it easier to find cable ties on wiring loom. it took me couple of hours to get out, but it is a tight squeeze to get pump past brake pipes.

    Ill post them voltages tommorrow
