    Hi Guys,

I've had my Zaf for a few months now and had a couple of issues.

First the MAF went so I replaced that and everything has been ok since, although immediately after replacing the MAF the Engine cooling light came on. The car has drove fine with it on and I had been told that it can just mean that the air con coolant level could be low.

However on Tuesday I noticed that when I started the car first thing in the morning the EM light came on and it lost a bit of performance although it didnt go into limp mode. After driving for about 5 minutes and turning off and back on the EM light went off and the car drove fine. It has now done this everyday since then exactly the same.

I plugged my OP-COM in this morning with the following results:

    OP-COM 100219a - PC based diagnostic tool

    OP-COM - KW2000 Communication Window> 2001|Zafira|Engine|Z 18 XE

Total number of fault codes: 1

P0340 - Camshaft Sensor Incorrect Signal
    (08) - Not present

It only shows as present on the first start of the day after that the fault code goes away and comes back the next day.

Before I jump in and replace the sensor is there something anyone might think it could be?

    Cheers in advance.

Normally when a cam sensor starts to fail, they start to give strange readings when they get hot. Rare for it to happen from 1st start. But I have seen this problem before but it wasnt on a Vx but a Citroen. They had a recall after they had identical issues, and it was caused by the coil pack. Apparently the coil pack would "transmit" an EMF spike into the cam sensor wiring, and cause the EML to stay on. I tried to move the cam wiring harness to stop it but alas it was a new coil pack.

Thanks for that I'll have a look at coil pack as well. I've been having a look at the Engine coolant light issue and read that aftermarket diagnostic cannot pick up faults on the engine cooling system as it has its own ECU, and the only way to get it read is to take it to a Vauxhall dealer, although it was a Vauxhall dealer that had said this! So just thought I'd check if anyone knows whether this is true.

I have noticed that the petrol consumption has dropped through the floor its the 1.8 Z 18 XE model and I get about 20 mpg!! Surely this cant be right??

If the coolant module goes faulty the coolant fans run all the time, you also get fault codes flagged up in the engine ECU. The dealer isnt being honest with you thats for sure. The coolant light is only to do with coolant level on the A model, you have a temp gauge, if that reads ok (compare it with your live readings using opcom) then all is well with the ECT (engine coolant temp sensor)

yeah the car runs at between 0 - 90 degrees when running, I've checked this with the opcom and it says the same. I'll try changing the sensor and the coil pack and see if that solves it
