Vectra C Rear Noise (like scraping metal)

Hi People,

I've got a 2002 Vectra C SRI 2.2I, its done 70K miles.

Whenever I go round a corner, or over a bump, (usually in 1st or 2nd gear), I can hear this noise that sounds like its coming from the rear of the car.... it sounds just like a piece of metal scraping on the road, or like a metal pole rolling on the floor.

Funny thing is, there is no loose metal on the underneath of the car. and everything in the car is secure, including the spare tyre and jack etc.

Anyone else had this problem? Or can anyone shed some light on what might be causing it?

Thanks Very Much

okay... Kwik Fit have had a look at this for me, but can't find anything wrong (suprise suprise).

They checked the things like wheel bearing, suspension, exhaust etc but can't find a fault. I took the mechanic out in it, cos i don't think he believed me, but he could hear the noise, which left him baffled.

He did say its coming from rear passenger side of the car, so its not vibrating through from somewhere else. And it only seems to happen whenever i turn left (mainly sharp left)

Has anyone else come across this problem, or have any idea what it could be?

Thanx

What not even for the sake of replacing something for the sake of it:shake :shake :shake Must of been the new guy I bet.
Try asking on http://www.forum.vectra-c.com/ lots more experience with faults on there for the new shape.

Can't say I've heard of it though, rear shocks are a common one I think but not rolling scaffold poles:lmao:

I had a similar array of noises coming from the rear passenger side of my vectra. Unfortunately I had the metallic noise and a thudding noise at the same time.

The metallic noise turned out to be a loose exhaust heatshield which I fixed with a screw and over-sized washer.

The thudding noise was coming from bottom bushes which I've had done and the car feels a lot tighter and noise free. The back end doesn't step out now when I go over a pot hole on a roundabout, which seems to have calmed my (already nervous) passengers.

Edit - Ignore this - Just realised the original post is abut the Vectra C

Just a thought......you dont have rear mudflaps fitted do you?
If one of them has dropped down...and scrapes on the road....it will make a horrible noise!
If you do...check the bottom of the flap....if its been scraping then you will see.

Just an idea

Cheers

just a quick idea, ive seen loads of cars with this noise, (vws though) most turn out to be stone in disc or between discs and disc shield, usually wheels need to come right off to find the location of the stone, hope this helps ,
