    Can anyone help me please.

When is the timing belt to be changed on a 53 Plate 1.6 8valve Meriva? We've just bought the car and it only has 5300 miles on the clock now and I'm thinking come October 2007 it'll be 4 years old and its obviously done town / city driving only before we bought it (it came from Bristol) so will the belt need changing this year regardless of the low miles? Plus it'll now be subject to at least 100 miles per week.
    Cheers.

Hope it doesn't break before 80k, damage in 8v engines is 50:50.

To clarify our obvous difference of opinion, when was this design change implemented? Which engine codes are safe?

Many thanks for your help. i think I'll arrange a change of belt late this year - after all a few pounds spent may just be safer than a knacked engine regardless of what Vauxhall say.

Sorry, but I totally agree with Ruperts Trooper on this one. 40,000miles or 4 yrs. This also agrees with Vauxhalls change policy for ALL petrol cambelt engines, regardless of what the handbook specifies.

Although I've never fully understood the 4 years business, other than a safeguard for lots of engine use with low mileage - like regular city traffic jams.

Would - say - someone I know who does 800 (yes 800) miles a year for shopping need to change their cambelt after 4 years, with only 3,200 miles on the clock?
