    Hi
I own a 2001 frontera 5 door 2.2dti. I've been having problems with loss of power (as if the turbo suddenly cuts ou). Had it plugged in for a diagnostic and the code read timing advance of fuel injection.
Is this going to be a pricy fix?
    really need some help.

the garage is G&S Mechanical engineers, Borough Green, Kent. Unfortunately they didn't write down the code number on the sheet they gave me. they wrote "further work needed to pump advanve by specialist", and told be he phoned the specialist who said he could fix it. When I phoned the specialist (Kent Diesel), they said for the 2.2 i'll need a new pump which is approx £2000. I only pid £3200 for the car so any help or advice will be appreiated.

hi you need to get the fault read by Tech 2 it has the ability to advance/retard the timing if required by adjusting the pump -unfortunatley back street garages don't have the tech 2 and can just read the codes in fact if anything it sounds like a crank or cam sensor fault -- i have to admit not ever heard of the 2.2 dti having a timing fault -- and even if i am wrong a reconditioned pump is only £600
    regards
    Steve

    Cheers,
This has given me some reassurance. is there a diesel specialist in kent you can recomend or should I take it to a vauxhall garage (I'm reluctant to take it to vauxhall in case I get ripped off)

Hi i looked up the fault codes for this engine p0149 is a fuel timing fault and 1630 is an engine timing fault neither have i ever heard of on a frontera or infact any Dti so i would recommend a vx tech 2 check to get a definitive fault code and to check if in fact there is actually anything wrong
    regards
    Steve

    Hi Steve,
I took it to kent diesel today and have only just remembered to phone them and ask if they use a tech 2. They dont. they say they use Bosch and various other devices and software. I am now a bit worried I am just going to get ripped off and be no further forward. I'll let you know what the code reads.

Hi the fuel pump is a Bosch VP44 so maybe they will be able to read the pump quite accurately but as i said i have never heard of a pump having a timing fault-- its electronic timing taken from sensors on the engine - so the timing should be spot on everytime -
    regards

Hi Steve, the code read "permanent control Problem" with the fuel pump. They said they can recondition it, but with labour + vat it will cost 1100quid. Is there anything or anywhere alternative you can recommend? Cos i dont think I can afford to get it fixed right now.
