I have the same problem with my 1.8 2000 zafira, how can I check if the thermostat is broken or not? They are quite expensive here on bankrupt island.

Hi you can test the thermostat by
run the engine at fast idle - if the temp goes to 90/half way its a good sign
then take the car for a drive - if the temp doesn't stay at 90/halfway then the thermostat is stuck open or staying open too long
replacement on the 1.8 is simple and easy - just three torx screws and a bypass hose
    regards
    Steve

On the 1.8 its on the front to the left. There is a big black hose connected to it along with a smaller hose and an electrical plug. Took me about 30min to replace last night, however the car still seems to have the same problem as described in the original post. Temp goes up to 90° when idle but then falls again when the car is driven. Can anything else than the thermostat cause this?
