How can I tell if the strut top mount bearings are shagged?
I read that there will be a gap between the cups and the top of the suspension turret is this correct.
How can I check - bearing in mind it passed the MOT a month ago!!
Anyone measured this 'GAP' for good and bad cases?

Do you get a bumping noise from yours when going over rough surfaces eg grassy/fields?
Mine have about a 4-5mm gap underneath - they can't sit flush though as the top has to turn?

That might just be down to sh@gged struts mate..

I thought it had to be my top mounts that were fooked, coz everytime I went over bumps or speed ramps there was an annoying knocking noise.

Anyways got me Viper kit on and dropped her 60mm and all was good (y) No more knocking....

I have got a 5mm Gap and do get noises on bumpy surfaces eg the roads round here! Also a vibration after balancing, tracking, disks etc so this is my next stop. Is it easy to do?

I think markcdxv6 has done this without completely removing the struts - he has a how2 on his website which I will be checking out when I decide to do mine.
I'm still wondering what the actual gap is on a good car which doesn't have this problem.....
