don't know if anyone can help, i've got a 2003 zafira diesel design. it was sent in 4 weeks ago for a new fan belt as it was constantly squealing, it was fitted and was quiet for a few hours then it came back with a vengance. the mechanic told me i needed a new fan belt tensioner, as a second person told me, so it was fitted last night, low and behold it's still the same. i saw the old one and there was definite wear there and needed replaced. now he says he thinks its the air conditioning pump. please someone help it's driving me mad

    It's an auxiliary belt

That tensioner would show signs of wear, it's a 2003 engine after all, all the same it should be serviceable for 150,000 miles or so.

If the garage is now telling you it needs a replacement air con pump why could they not diagnose that in the first place.

Get yourself along to a more reputable garage.

i do have a reliable mechanic, i also got a second opinion before he fitted the fanbelt adjuster.

not sure what an auxillary belt is either if you can tell me. i think it may still just be the fan belt squealing it has that same sound, should i have put another new belt on when the tensioner was put on.

my ex husband sprayed wd40 on it today with the engine running and it stopped squealing for a while so think i'm gonna go with another belt first and try that.

    what do you think anyone?

i thought that if the water pump was faulty it would be losing water in some way as a previous car i had did that, although not sure only guessing

Fan belt is auxillary belt, iv always referred to it as that, when mine was on its way out it wasnt leaking water but was making a knocking/squealing noise where it was worn.

    Grrrrrrrrr ...

Stop calling it a fan belt, it doesn't drive a fan. Its an auxiliary belt, it drives auxiliaries (alternator, power steering, air con etc.)

If the AUXILIARY belt has been sprayed with a Water Dispersant (WD40) and the squealing stopped then we can deduce that the spray has acted as a lubricant between the belt and the pulleys.

Take the belt off and clean and check all the pulleys (crankshaft, alternator, power steering, air conditioning pump etc.). Depending whether or not you have power steering and air conditioning you will have either four, five or six pulleys to clean and check.

Just a thought, have you checked for hamsters using the AUXILIARY belt as a tredmill :ROFLMAO:

Art you're the first person that's made me laugh about my car in quite a while, it's really getting me down at the min.

ex hubby sprayed wd40 on auxillary belt and it stopped the squealing immediately. he said by rights when the tensioner was changed i should of had a new belt as well what do you think.

also having problems with the car having very little acceleration, it was fine before the mechanic first took it to service it and put the new heater plugs and fan belt in, now it's not a powerful any ideas before i have a total meltdown

LOL chill out mate, no need to blow a gasket, different people refer to different things ummmmm differently, as long as it gets the job done its not a big issue, and it doesnt drive the auxiliaries it drives the ancillaries. LMAO
