My astra 1.6 sxi has developed an over revving fault, on acceleration the engine revs making it hard to build up speed, I believe this could be a slipping clutch, does this sound correct??

Can anyone advise as to a repair cost to solve a slipping clutch?

Or can it be easily done by myself.

    Thanks

if it is the clutch then to replace is about £150 ish for a decent kit, clutch plate/pressure plate and throwout bearing.
I did mine myself, its a big job for the diyer but is doable IMO
Need the tools and space to get the car up high.
garage costs? I'd guess at £350 maybe more, incl parts.

I had the clutch pressure plate/friction plate and CSC slave/bearing replaced on my 1.6 zafira a month ago for £230 fitted. The original slave burst and contaminated the friction plate. My car will has the same engine/gearbox/clutch as yours so thats a figure to aim for. Ring around as they vary and make sure they do the slave/bearing. Its about 5 hours work

£230, thats a very good price IMO, what was the labour / parts breakdown out of interest?

To be honest. I never asked. It is a very good price but there was another 3 garages that quoted around this price. I remember him saying he should be able to do it in 4 hours. VX quote over 6 hours. I was hoping for just a new slave but he rang me and asked me to come and look at the friction plate as it was contaminated which I did and i watched him refit the new kit. The car now drives better than it ever did. It use to judder like mad when starting off hot or cold.

On the downside. It came back pulling pretty bad to the left. I had to have the tracking redone as the subframe wasnt in the exact same place. Cost me £15 but its perfect now

I agree. Seems like labour costs around my area are alot lower than down south.
