I tried to change my front pads today, only to find that I needed a female torx type socket to remove the calipers, which I do not have. Could someone kindly tell me which size is required, so that I can buy one tomorrow to get the job done. Thanks

you dont need to remove the caliper to get the pads out, only the cylinder section! you need an allen key to remove that (8mm i think) look on the back of the calliper there will be 2 black rubber tubes, pop off the covers and undo the allen head bolt inside, remove the front antichatter spring and the whole thing lifts apart!

B&Q do a 23 piece set for £15, surely one of them would fit- also you would have some handy tools for future use- just a thought...

Mine must be different to the norm, to be honest, I expected to see those rubber sleeves with the allen bolts, for which I have the tool. I recently changed the pads on my wife's zafira & that was the set up there, so I was a bit flummoxed to see torx type bolt heads with no rubber sleeving on my van, has anyone else come across this type of set up before & if so , what is the size of socket required?

I could get a set of torx sockets in Screwfix for under £4, but, unfortunately they do not open on a sunday, I know that halfords do open & they sell them seperately. Money is tight at the moment, so I would rather buy one there for £4 than a set, which is a lot dearer at halfords. Thanks for your responses guys.

I had another look this morning, after what bungle said. The cylinder section was held by two normal hex bolts. The sight of the torx bolts & lack of the rubber sleeves yesterday threw me totally, must have had my beer goggles on. Anyway, the job has now been done. Thanks for the replies.
