    Hi,

I know this sounds a daft question, but where is the power steering reservoir on the Vectra C?

I want to check the level of the fluid as there appears to be seepage under one of the rack gaiters (pipes seem clean at unions). The gaiters don't 'blow up' when the steering is on full lock so I want to see where the level is at.

Is it the black bottle with the white star socket cap on the bulkhead?

    Thanks

Its under the front offside headlight, located in the inner offside wheel arch, behind the front bumper.

The power steering bottle on my 1.9 cdti is mounted on the bulkhead underneath the diesel filter, its a white bottle with a black cap.

Are you sure that isn't the brake fluid bottle?

Yes, the brake fluid bottle is mounted at the top left hand side of the bulkhead as you look from the front of the car. The Haynes book states that the standard power steering bottle is mounted under the front right hand wheel arch and models with the compact power steering bottle have it mounted on the subframe just above the steering gear.
Thats where mine is below the diesel filter and above the subframe.

On mine, I have to take a plastic cover that clips on the top of the engine, and under that to the right (as you look at the car) there is a black bottle with a black cap. That is the power steering bottle. I'm having to fill it up every few days at the moment and am becoming an expert at it :)

That's because your Vectra is the Vectra-B. The OP is asking for the location of the PAS reservoir on a Vectra-C.

    Thanks for all the replies.

I found mine - white bottle, black cap under the diesel filter - same as Rapala (cheers).

Just checked the level and it does not register on the dip stick - using a straw it seems to be about 1 inch lower than the stick.

Looks like I will need to top up the fluid. Does it matter which type of Power Steering fluid I use - mine appears to be clear when it was on the straw?

Or should I not mix the types and get some fluid from Vx?

Gonna be fun trying to reach the bottle to top it up!!

Fully intend to get the leak checked, but I can top up the fluid quicker than I can get the car into a garage :D

The film of fluid on the gaiter was pointed out to me when I had the oil changed between services about 5-6 weeks ago, so I am not losing much fluid...yet. I know the leak can only get worse.

Just dreading being told "need a new rack mate" as from what I can see all the pipes and connectors look dry. Well, it's the bill I dread, the news is just the warm-up for the sinking feeling
