    Hi folks
    hope someone could help me
i have been on before about my zafira 1.6 life and thought i had it sorted http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co...-stalled-and-wouldnt-start-eml-light-on/page2
but it seems like all the problems are back.
i still have all the same problems as before, in that once the car has been driven for a while it just cuts out completely(doesent matter what revs it just dies and both rpm and speedo needles drop to 0

so far i have replaced the engine ecu
    crankshaft sensor
removed thermostat( in an attempt to make it run cooler and not cut out on me to no avail)
    removed and cleaned throttle body
    removed and cleaned egr valve
checked fuel pump (its still running when car cuts out)
replaced fuel pump relay and ecu relay ect
cleaned and checked all engine bay earths
stripped out fuse box and took apart (checked for any water damage or corrosion ) all looked brand new .
replaced CIM module at steering wheel & reprogrammed keys
    reprogrammed fuse box
    reprogrammed rear fusebox
    reprogrammed abs pump
please please help me with this one
i am sure someone on here has had the same problems and could point me in the right direction with this
so to recap the car cuts out after its been warmed up and stopped , once it cuts out it will start after ten seconds if you turn the key off, it will run again for a few minutes, then cut out again,it doesn't matter what revs are on the engine it just cuts out ( no spluttering) the more it cuts out the less-it will run until eventually it wont even turn over .. then if you leave it a few hours (4-5) it will run again, then it happens all over again :shame:

i have looked at the wiring diagrams on tis 2000 and the high speed can wires(which is what the communication between the CIM, ECU, ABS & FUSE BOX )run, seem to meet at the fuse box.

so i am thinking could this be at fault. i priced one of these and at over £300 i dont want to replace this unless i am really sure its the problem.

    so heres the codes again
let me know what you all think (y)

    Hi
It seems we are both having near enough the same problem, only mine won't start AT ALL???? Is your SCM fuse blowing anytime???? We maybe able to help each other if you read my thread you will see all the problems I'm having, and what I am "being told" the problem is??? You mentioned in your thread that you have looked at the wiring diagram etc... is there any chance you can supply me with details as to how to get hold of these diagrams???

    My thread http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co...tic-Zafira-1.8-Petrol-56-plate-faults!!!-HELP!

    hi Andrea
unlike yours my SCM is not blowing but i am suspecting a loose wire somwhere is disconecting for once it heats up and cutting everything out.

i have read your post and i think you have a strong case with vauxhall in that
1 the 7.5 amp fuse should never have been replaced with a 30 amp one, not only does this cause a risk of fire but also damage to other componants & your new cim module.

    2
the fact that vauxhall sent you out in your car with new faults like the ABS fault and an AIRBAG fault after they had fitted a new CIM is very dangerous and unsafe as your ANTI-LOCK BREAKING will not work and could cause you to crash, and as your airbag light is on (indicating a fault) none of these would deploy either.

if i was you i would defentily get on to the top man at the dealer to get this sorted and if no help is given phone a solicitor and get advice.

as for the wireing digrames i got mine here

    good luck

have you tested the alternator for correct voltage,
    checked voltage regulator.

You have a lot of not present faults listed in a few different modules, coupled with canbus communication errors, I am thinking you may have an internal ECU failure.

    Fire thanks for your reply
i have had my own ECU sent off to bluestreak and they said they could find no fault with it.

i also had a brand new genuine vauxhall ECU fitted by vauxhall and it still cut out on me that evening, so i got it removed and currently have my own ECU back in the car.

the faults are only there for the split second it cuts out and then if i put the diagnostics on it they say not present.

if i clear them and start it again she will run for a few minutes then cut out again giving all the same fault codes as before (but still saying not present)

i am thinking it is the momentarily loss of can bus signal that is causing the cutting out and multipal codes.

maybe a wire is heating up and loosing its connection for a second, then reconnecting itself ?

i have checked the wiring diagrams and the high speed can-bus from the CIM module runs through the dash (IPC) , then the radio display(DIS) down to the main fusebox(UEC)

so what i am thinking is that the CIM is losing contact with the ECU ( through the UEC)causing the shut down as the cim has the immobilizer in it. causing its faults

the ABS unit cant see the ECU (also through the UEC) causing its faults

to me it seems that they are all linked & powered by the UEC

    what do you think ?

I totally agree Bob, I wonder if the loom is damaged as it is almost as if the ECU is being switched off! Hunting for that is going to be one major pain in the rear. In the days before canbus I would suggest connecting a breakout box and watching the lines to see what "switches off" during the fault, but not sure if this can be done with canbus systems, I guess I best read up on this LOL.
Sorry I don't have any solutions, but this really does seem like a head scratching problem.

I had an intermittent fault with a 1.6 8v G. No codes stored. Would cut out & run rough when warmed up intermittently. Got worse over time. Eventually found prob, was coil pack. Took me 3 months to find prob. Obviously you have a 16v, just a thought.

    .

i have wondered about the coil pack myself, but was unsure because i am getting so many fault-codes with the problem.
i suppose it wouldn't be impossible for the coil pack to fail and maybe send a power surge back down the line causing all the fault codes, or am i clutching at straws here.

i am currently running the car with the coil pack cover removed as to let it keep cooler for me.

at the moment i am open to any suggestions

Right Bob please tell me you have found the miracle cure. I have the same fault on a friends car and have been down the same route as yourself (wish id found this earlier) including changing the coilpack as queried above. Am i right in thinking yours is a z16xep
