As Hiddenvision says, there is another thread on this, have a read of that. http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/showthread.php?t=179713
Your symptoms are exactly the same as I initially experienced, no assistance one way, assistance the other way and a "lumpy" feeling. This happened three or four times randomly before I took the car, not very old from new, to supplying dealer.
Of course, there were no faults stored so there must be nothing wrong!
If yours goes the same as mine the power steering will fail completely at some point in the future, quite without warning and the EPS light will come on - then there'll be a fault stored.
It's the torque sensor and requires new steering column which, following best engineering practice :shake, is built around said sensor!:think
If you're out of warranty then you'll have a battle to receive any help from Vx.

A pity we can't go back to the good old days where the customer was always right - if they say the car is doing xyz then there must be a fault & the crusty old boy in the corner puts down his mug of stewed tea, shoves his head under the bonnet for a few seconds, has a prod around with his well worn screwdriver & the fault is fixed.

Seems to me that most mechs these days come fresh from college where the only thing taught is how to plug in a computer & look up fault codes.

Not wanting to patronise the good mechs but that's just how it seems to be these days - and the good mechs seem to be very thin on the ground.

Whilst lookng around these forums, it seems that the Meriva is a bit of a dog, the dealers are clueless & vox don't give a chuff once they have your cash.
Seems the only real answer is to drive it as hard as you can into a motorway bridge then claim on your insurance, tell them the steering just went.
Vox will say there are no faults, you say why would you deliberately...
