Well, i've not been on for a while as i've been stupidly busy the last few months and haven't done any car related playing... However things are calming down now so i've got myself a little toy.. (apologies for the crap phone pic, will get some better ones when it arrives.
It's not quite as bad as it looks:lmao:
It's a 1989 pug 205 1.9 GTI with 81K on the clock which has been in storage for 5 years. It starts and runs niceley and the shell is solid (even under the back seats which is where these go) All of the missing bits come with the car. The plan is to refit the panels (i've located some doors and a bonnet in good nick in the right colour so they are going on) fit new wings and have them painted, replace all of the brake lines, the cambelt, water pump, discs and pads, (suspension is all new already), oil, filters, coolant hoses (rad is new), tyres and battery and then enjoy/refine as I go along.
Budget in total is £1K which i'll tally up as I go along.
More pics soon hopefully when I have arranged to have it taken to my house
Update today (still not back at my gaff yet but did some prep for the move)
- Replaced fuel filter (was missing)
- Installed borrowed battery
- Stuck a fiver of petrol in
- changed oil
- Topped up fluids
- Got all of the trim etc out of the interior to confirm the car is complete
and started and moved around the yard under it's own steam! Purred like a kitten despite being sat for 4 years, not so much as a rattle. Gearbox and clutch etc are fine.
A few pics of the day
costs so far
Pug 205 GTI £250 (complete with new cambelt, brake discs and pads, oil filter, plugs, bilstein shocks, springs, drop links all in the boot ready to fit!)
Fuel filter £14.99
Indeed, I think i'll keep it as is depending on how good it cleans up. Not a great deal of point in stripping it out as it's all pretty flimsy and light anyway.

Got the wings off to check out the state of play behind them... After a clean up it's looking good. I'll be wire brushing and hammeriting all this before the new wings go on.
Next up I stripped the interior to check for rot. Theres just one tiny bit in the boot which i'll cut out but thats it!
Then tucked it up for the night..
Next weekends plans are to get the doors off and prepare for removing the rear beam for refurbishment.
Bit more progress today. Got the slam panel off and the radiator etc all out of the way to give me access to the whole front panel ready for cleaning up and repainting. I'll upload the pics later on.
Next job is to start grinding the rust down on the front panel and get the engine bay and inner wings etc jet washed down prepped and painted. I need to replace the metal coolant hose that runs past the front wheel as that's rusted to hell. I can then start refitting the rad etc and send the wings and bonnet off for paint.
