hi all, i have a vectra c 1.8 and i think it idles very low, it sits about half way between 500 and 750 , i assume this is low...the car has no air box but has a cone type filter fitted (similar to k&n) would this make it idle low , i never got the air box with it and if this is causing it id buy a new box for it ...thanks people..

What makes you think the idle is to low? is the car stalling and difficult to drive? the higher the tick over the more fuel it's going to use as well. If your not having problems I wouldn't worry about it.

I don't think a cone filter is going to affect the tick over speed? as the ICV controls the amount air being fed to the engine at tick over.

The tick over on my V6 is supposed to be 650RPM and I don't have any problem.

i have an o3 plate 1.8 16v and my idle speed seems low too again around the 600-650 mark the car seems quite slow too but ive never drove another one to compare it i notice when pulling off and also changing into 2nd gear it seems to have a slight hesitation or bit of a flat spot, could the idle speed or control valve cause this?

    best regards
    kris

I don't think your problem lies with the ICV. Problems with the ICV are generally eratic tick over or engine speed slowly returning to tick over after releasing the throttle.

As above, don't worry about the actual idle speed, provided it's stable and doesn't stall when you're stopped.

In any case, it's an ECU thing, not like the good old days when you adjusted it with a screwdriver!

Idol speeds are low on GM engines are there American engines (beleve it or not). I beleve most GM engine idol at 450-650 RPM. As long as it isnt juddering it is normal.

You don't have one, it is all controlled by the the throttle motor. Check the throttle body bypass holes for blockages.
