Hmmm, this topic is causing some debate right now! ;)

Either one you pick, it is not going to give you any real improvement.
If you want a real difference go for a set of 3.0 cams and maybe a performance chip upgrade... This is my plan over the coming months, with rolling road tests before and after to accurately measure improvements.

As for the exhaust, from what I gather the standard system is excellent. The twin system you speak of will be troublesome as you will need a connecting pipe between the 2 pipes to keep the pressure balanced. Personally I would go for the MV6 back box as it make a great growl! :D

I will have to agree 100% with laidback.
THe scary thing is that some of the v6 engines when dynotested as standard are putting out arround 185ps. I was racing my mate with his celica gt 175ps whil ei had 4 people in the omega and the celica didn't go very far. I have the feeling that if i was alone and start from stand still i would k**k his a*s. the 2.5 engine is capable of some serious power but do we really want to disrupt this perfect harmony of efficiency , smoothness and power?

No 2 engines will be the same, there are so many variables that will affect power output, even from new.
Since I discovered that the 2.5 is quite a de-tuned lump, I have become curious to find out how much extra can be release with just some straightforward and not too expensive tweaks.

I was talking about this the other evening to Yoda (Marks DTM), and we concluded that a set of 3.0 cams and a chip upgrade could take a normal 2.5 lump up to 200bhp or more.

Hopefully it won't adversely affect the running either.

If nothing else, it will be a fun project over the coming months! ;)

The 2.5V6 is quite de-tuned, it has to be, nobody would buy the 3.0 otherwise!

I agree it seems that is the marketing strategy that affects the power as usuall,
but i believe that they detune the engines because some of the european countries tax the engine KW.
Also i think that a 2.5 tuned to 200ps would go better than the 3 lt because of the diff ratio.

i dont know what you think of this but you could drill holes in your air box where the air filter is, obviously in the part before the air hits the filter, it gives as good a sound as a cone filter for no money, you might wana get a second hand one and try it, or what ever, dont know if it will improve performance

Does this mean the 3.0 is under performing as an engine?

The 3.0 is on the money for a 3.0. The 2.5 can out perform most 2.5's (look at the 2.5 GSI Vectra where the main difference is that it has 3.0 cams).

True of many engines where more than one capacity is produced from the same block/head arrangement.
