measure each one with wire disconnected should each read 0.9 ohms between tip and body

and no not easy to replace they seize in

could be relay not plugs if they read ok

what makes you think its plugs

if plugs usually eml stays on after starting until it warms up then goes off

its a big metal heatsunk thing either inner wing or fusebox
to save yuorself some cash have codes read first.

did you do that check or not 0.9 on each one

i doubt it plugs at all as they only work on outside temp do not think you have a fault these new ones only bring glow plugs on if outside temp is low .

your mate is talking about older diesels pre 1997 that need them to start in winter

these can start without glowplugs unless its about -10 degrees outside he is talking out of his exhaust:D

    Zafira Glow Plugs

The Ohmic value of the plugs is around the 1.5ohms, if your reading is along way from this then providing the meter you are useing is acurate then the plugs will need replacing.
In most cases the plugs burn out inside and go open circuit which will be quite evident when you put a meter on them.
The heater plugs do acutaly operate every time you start the engine but the length of time they are turned on depends on the engine temprerature, most lterature says they do not come on unless the temperature drops but tests we have done show otherwise.
Changing the plugs should be simple but infact can turn into a bit of a nightmare!! as has been said the plugs can seize into the alloy head so when you come to undue them they will either snap or rip out the threads in the head, as the thread is a very fine pitch this can happen quite easily, if this happens you are in the POO!! as it may need to be drilled and hellicoiled not easy with the cylinder head still on so could end up with major work.
If you are going to attempt the job it would be best to get the engine started and let it get hot, this may help the plugs to loosen as you try to undo them, but not so easy to work on.
    Hope this helps.

Hi not quite true the dti engines glow circuit is auto matic - they actually activate every time you start the engine - its only when the ecu feels that it needs extra time that it leaves the glowplug light on for a bit longer - this is why in the previous post as Steve says these engine start every time no matter the temp unless its very very cold
As for removal always remember to tighten before loosening - warm and not hot engine is best along with plus gas or wd40 in copious amounts
    cheers
    Steve

    glowplugs change

    Hi
I am about to change the plugs in our 51 plate 2.00 dti.
three of the plugs have done 113k one about 15k yup the garage now admits they only changed one.
Never having done this before I note it could be difficult.
    can you tell me
do you need a special spanner like a plug spanner if so what size?

You say tighten first then losen how much is small say 1/8th of a turn would you use a torque wrench and say add a pound? also should the engine always be warm or can you do it cold?

I know my way around petrol engines but not deisels.
    thanks

use some alloy wheel cleaner first to help break up the corrosion on the plugs and then plenty of wd 40,
