When I start my car the Exhaust Emissions light comes on and then stays on all the time while Im driving - the car seems to run fine but does anyone know what the problem may be and whether it is still safe to drive the car? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

It could well just be a faulty sensor, particularly if it's running smoothly.

Are there any unusual smells from the exhaust?

If not, it's likely to be the pre- or post- cat sensor...if you know your stuff, try disconnecting each one in turn to see which one, or just drop it into a dealer.

Thanks for the reply, the warning light looks like this:
Apart from it dosen't have the 'check engine' sign in the middle, this is the best picture I could get. In the manual it says this: Fault in the emission control system. The permitted emission limits may be exceeded. Consult a workshop. Well Im hoping to get this sorted Friday as I still have warranty from the place I got it from but would I be ok to drive it in the meantime? Im not too good with cars so wouldn't be able to sort it myself so just going to wait till Fridays. Thanks

Rather than guessing, I think the first step is to read the associated error code.

Indeed,, that is the Engine Management Light.

It means that there is a code stored in the ECU, the code needs to be read in order to repair or replace the fault.

Ok thanks for that, so it could be anything then, not just the emission system? Funny thing is it got MOT'd last week so it is rather strange! No car till Friday then Im guessing!

Well just seen you can do a test to find the fault code, going to give it a go now and see what happens!

You said you have warranty on the car, my advise would be a visit back to the seller first, may just be a simple code clearance, also then you have reported it to the seller within you warrasnty peiod.
