My Vectra (1997 P Reg, 1.6LS 16V) sometimes starts jerking at low speeds usually after a motorway run. I have 2 fault codes, one for EGR Valve and the other for Crank sensor. I'm guessing from what I've read that the jerking is related to possibly the EGR valve sticking, can this be cleaned and if so is it easy or should I get a garage to do it?

One person I spoke to said get some a cleaner to add to the petrol or some other valve cleaner, any recommendations?

Well from what I've been told that would cost me about £300 just for the part and I'm not even sure if I could fit it myself so it could cost a lot more:( and then it might not even cure the problem:(

find out what trouble code is in it...if egr and u say jerky so highly likely, esp on 1.6...common...

u remove the plastic ecotec cover , two torx screws, egr is on right side of engine as u stand at front, cylindrical in shape with connector at top....has two et45 (i ithink that size) bolts that holds it on...easy peasy to change...

and they cost £75 quid now i think..unsure...i know they used to be £130..i cuold be wrong..i see too many vox bits in a day....

just ring up vox..or better still voxbits...(is that correct name peeps?)

u can easily change it yourself..takes two mins...

    hope helps, chris

    Cleaning EGR

I have a 2.0 Vectra with 180,000 miles on it. I have managed to clean my EGR and get an improvement in running from doing so, They get full of exhaust coke. Remove attached pipes remove the 2 retaining bolts. When you have it off the car turn upside down and operate the plunger inside with a screw driver. You should hear the diaphram sucking. do this several times then put back on the engine. It is not a long term solution however and you may find yourself doing it again in 4-5 months time, but hey its cheaper than a new one.
