I have a Corsa (2002) which started only with great difficulty. There were two symptoms:

    a) To start with the engine would turn over, fire and run for about 2 seconds then cut out. The yellow engine light came on. There was also a clicking sound when turning the engine over. Eventually it would start and once going, it would be fine.

    b) Then this morning, after flattening the battery almost completely trying to start it, the symptom changed. Now when I put the key in the ignition, before trying to start the car, the yellow engine light would flash and click fast. It would not start at all, although the engine was hardly turning over at all due to the state of the battery.

What the Vauxhall dealer said: I called our local dealer. They are good and helpful and said it was a problem with the immobiliser. See this thread for info on the immobiliser: http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/archive/index.php/t-202670.html
In my case it wasn't the key, since exactly the same problem with both my keys, so must be the immobiliser unit.
To reset the codes would probably cost around £200.

Options to bypass the immobiliser: found this site on the web to bypass the immobiliser, http://www.automotiveelectronics.co.uk/index.php?f=data_vauxhall&a=0

    Meanwhile I charged the battery.
The battery terminals were looking pretty corroded, so cleaned them up and then just tried to start it again.

With a charged battery this is what happened:
    - turned on the ignition - yellow engine light came on full (not flashing!)
    - tried to start the engine - fired first time, no engine light, no clicking, no cutting out after 2 seconds

    Conclusion
If your Vauxhall won't start easily or you have any of the symptoms above that I had, try ensuring you have a fully charged battery with good, clean terminals and a good earth connection. In my case the problem is showing up as an immobiliser issue, but that in turn was caused by lack of power from the battery. Good luck!

    Corsa wont start

I had similar problems, car would fire then immediately cut out, went through usual routine, including changing crank sensor, checking fuel pump. Looked at wiring diagram in Haynes manual and fuel pump gets earth from ECU. Was going to change ECU, out of curiosity put additional earth from ECU to battery and it works. Take earth off ECU and symptom re-appears.

Great - sounds like a fix.
Sorry for basic question, where is the ECU located exactly and what does it look like?
You ran the new earth to the battery neg terminal - did you try running it to chassis - should work?

    thanks for the info!

I have this problem car would start run for about 2 seconds then cut out then it would take a while of turning over before it started again. Cheched fault codes they showed P1613 Immobiliser No Or Wrong Signal but would only do this about once a month.
