IIRC engine number is stamped on the block facing up by cylinder 4 (right hand side of engine, it may be buried under grime. eg X14XE or C14SE. Is it 8v or 16v?

    cheers all,
I am trying to get a cambelt but only get as far as what engine is it which as I dont know is as far as I get. I know its not ecotech as the rocker cover is marked vauxhall not ecotech its a thin cover so assume its SOHC but trying in vain to find out if its 8 or 16v. Have looked at far end of block nearest passenger but can see GM but nothing else. I have an engine pic but cant work out how to upload it.

    8v rule !! :bananasmi

    http://astra.autokacik.pl/technika/napraw/silnik_zaz.jpg
Thats an 8v block ^^ which is sohc/single over head cam so its got 8v so 2 valves per cylinder one for the inlet and one for exhaust outlet. The valves are bigger and heavier so take a little longer to respond compaired to 16v which has 4 valves per clyiner and there smaller so responce is quicker..

    16v engine

Im sure your car will have the supa 8v engine ;)
