    Hi all,

My gfs car has a problem and its really bugging me, so i thought maybe someone on here would know the answer.

She drives a 2002 Corsa and recently shes had starting problems. It started with the dashboard completely failing which i found was due to a dodgy connector at the rear of the dash, Sorted.. or so i thought.
(Btw i didnt do anything but wedge abit of cardboard under the connector to hold it up).

Recently she'll go to start the car and it will turn over but then the light with a spanner on it will start to flash and the car will fail to start. Sometimes removing the key and starting again will solve the problem but tonight it will not start at all.
She did mention that if she cranked the ignition enough that the engine emission warning light will come on but im unsure if this is related to the immobiliser problem.
I found an article that said the corsa c has a common immob fault like the one ive described but unfortunatly every man and his dog has a diferent 'solution'.

Does anyone has any good ideas why this may be happening?

    Thanks
    Dave

Hi its the plug again - i recommend disconnecting the battery - remove the dash - clean the contacts - expand the contacts - refit the plug
    cheers

Makes sense as when a garage fitted her steering rack they removed the dash and the cardboard fell out. Is this a common problem?
vauxhall are insisting its either the key or the ring on the barrel but they havent seen it yet!

    Cheers

    Corsa 2001 same problem

    Hi all,

My wife's y reg corsa has the same problem. it really seems to be a common one (unless you ask a vauxhall garage!). we have 2 fault codes P1612 and P1616 as well as the starting problem, which usually manifests itself after the car has been driven for a while then left to sit for a few minutes before attempting to restart. The dials on the dash also drop occasionally, with the car working fine.

So my problem is a simple one. I would like to try and sort out the connections behind the dash but when I tried to open it up at the weekend, I couldn't manage to figure out how to take the dash apart to access the wires. Could someone please advise on how to do this.

    Thanks
    :mmmm

It will most probably be the instrument cluster plug but normally you have fault codes logged for CAN communication errors as well as immobiliser related codes.

Normally you remove instrument cluster, cut off cable tie security wiring to dashboard so you have more slack in wiring then remove plug from its locating socket under cluster and connect it the instrument cluster 1st the re-install. Check pin tightness and clean with some form of contact cleaner or wd40.

If this fails then if you have a spare key try that as well.

I started one for you :ROFLMAO: Look for "kayscorsa Problem" on the Astra / Corsa / Tigra / Nova page.

To start a thread, click on the "Start New Thread" button in the light blue band under where it says "Astra / Corsa / Tigra / Nova Share information on all aspects of maintaining, repairing & servicing the Vauxhall Astra, Corsa, Tigra, Nova and other small Vauxhalls in here ( Includes Opel, Holden and GM variants)". :)

    For KaysCorsa

How long does it run for before it cuts out?
What is the temp guage reading when it cuts out?
    Are there any "odd" noises?
    What engine does it have?
How many miles has it done?
What sort of driving do you do (town or longish runs)?
    When was it last serviced?
