I understand that some Corsa's (94-00) have chain driven engines and so have no cam belt to change regularly.
How does one know if the car you are considering buying has a chain rather than a belt?

Specifically, what about a 1998 1.4i 16v Corsa with VIN: W0L0SBF68W*******? Does this have a chain driven engine?

    Thanks.

not 100% true, all 1.0 engines are chain driven, the 1.2 8v engine is belt, the 1.2 16v is chain driven, all corsa b 1.4 engines are belt driven.when the twinport 1.4s came out on a corsa c they went to chain driven as the engine is based on the 1.2 16 engine

Every 40 000 miles or 4 years and the tensioner must also be replaced. You can get the whole kit from the dealers.

That clears up the situation. I'm sure that many other newbies will appreciate that info too.
    Very many thanks.
