    Hi,

I have an Astra Twintop 1.8 Design, I took delivery of it in August. It's a great car but I have question about the roof.

I have noticed that the roof quite often creaks when the car travels over any slight bump in the road, is this normal?
It doesn't seem to do it all the time, and it varies as to if it's warm or cold out. Sometimes it doesn't creak at all, and others times it will creak all the time unless you are driving on a perfectly smooth stretch of road, any small pothole or manhole cover will make it creak.

Anyone out there with a twintop, does yours do this?

I have also noticed that the wind noise at the top of the doors is unequal, it is louder on the driver's side, maybe the doors and roof need adjusting?

I took it back to the dealer I bought it off, who said they had a look at it but it seemed OK, but would have to take it to their other dealership for their specialist guy to look at it if it was still a problem. Saying that I have little faith in the dealership as not only did they damage the car (scratch on bumper) on the day I picked it up, they also orderd the wrong colour leather interior, so I am now waiting while they order another car with the right trim so they can swap the seats etc over.

Does anyone know a decent Vauxhall dealer (with a twintop specialist) around the Coventry area?

    Thanks

    Vicky

    Leaking boot on Astra TwinTop

    Hi Vicky and Grant,

My wife bought a new TwinTop on an 08 plate last year. Since then it's been back to the dealership 6 times for a total of 8 weeks. She got it back 2 days ago when they found a leak (if the front of the car is raised about a foot as on the driveway) and said they finally fixed it. :D

Yesterday it rained and what should we find this evening when we opened the boot? Yep. Water.

I'm fed up to the back teeth with it - and it's my wife's car!!!

I'm going to see the MD of the dealership to find out what they're going to do about it. My wife just wants rid of the car and her money back!!!

7 days before my wife picked up her Astra, I picked up a VXR8. Since then I've been waiting for a Service Booklet. One arrived about 2 weeks ago but it was for a "Hot Red Monaro" with the other details of my VXR9 - and its actuallt silver!!

If I get anu joy - and even if Idon't - I'll keep everyone updated on progress during the next couple of days.

    Hi,

Just new to this forum and looking for some advice. I picked up my 08 plate Astra Air Twintop on 28th February this year and it has been back in the garage on 6 occasions to fix leaks. Every time one leak gets fixed, another seems to appear!! They had the car for a week last week and told me they had hose tested it every day for 5 days and no leak. Funnily enough, I picked it up on Thursday, it rained on Friday and the leak was still there !!!!

They have today agreed to send the car back to Vauxhall direct to get them to check it but I'm losing my patience now. They seem to have had my car more than I have!!

Can anyone advise me what I should do next please? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks

For any squeaks call Vauxhall themselves. The daughter did and got her roof and doors adjusted free of charge.

Downside of that is the roof has now developed leaks.

She has booked it in but Vauxhall Star City are adamant that the roof is only guaranteed for 12 months, electrics yes, but not panels, lining, seals etc.

Will keep you informed but at this moment in time she is all for getting rid.....VAUXHALL TAKE NOTE

i bought my astra TT from Archie Moss in Loughborough in march 2009, it was brand new when i picked it up and i had a set of vauxhall parking sensors fitted so it was all ready on collection, i didnt even get a mile out of the garage when the airbag alarm was constantly going off, i took it back to the garage but they couldnt find the problem and booked the car in for a couple of days later, the outcome was it needed a whole new computer system which i was very angry about as i had waited 3 years to buy this car. They were not very helpful at all and i spoke to the Manager who had a very bad attitude and offered to paint protect my car for free as compensation, which i accepted. My car went in to be paint protected and came out with a deep scratch on the roof, by this time i just wanted to drive my new car so decided not to complain.

I then started to have problems with the parking sensors permanantly going off in reverse when nothing was around, the car went in a couple of times and they said they couldnt find the problem so they said they would have to change them for a new set, i was told this would take half an hour to fit and that i could wait when i took the car to the garage, 5 and a half hours later when i was so angry i could have smashed up the garage, i got my car back to find the electric windows were not working properly so they then had to rectify that too.

I then had a terrible leak on the passenger side, i took it to pentagon vauhall in derby who were wonderful, as by this point Archie moss had ruined my car and tested my patience enough. The seals were replaced and i was told that the roof is only under warranty for 12 months, which was not told to me on the sale of the car surprise surprise, i was also told that the seals will need replacing quite often as they rot because we dont have the weather for these cars.

I then had to take it back to Archie Moss in december 2009 for the parking sensors yet again doing the same thing.

I have now in February 2010 found the whole boot lining to be wet through and i have mould all over the carpet and on the windbreaker, i took it into pentagon derby and they checked it, and the result is that when the parking sensors were fitted, a grommet was cut to fit the parking sensor wiring and this is letting the water gush into my boot and has ruined both the carpet and windbreaker, i have now had to book it back into Archie Moss to be rectified, i have told them i want a new boot lining and windbreaker, it is booked in on monday the 8th feb 2010 and i will see what the result of this is.

In my opinion, i waited 3 years to be able to get this car and after all the problems ive had and now knowing the roof is only covered for 12 months, the car unfortunately has to go, i have always loved vauxhalls, but this will be my last, i am so annoyed byt the way i was treated and all the rpoblems that i have had to deal with, that i have lost all faith un this car.

I purchased a 2006 06 Astra Twintop 3 months ago. In the short time I have had it there have been several occasions when the roof has got stuck when opening and I have had to take my finger off the button on the roof and start again, sometimes 3 or 4 times before it will open fully. A few days ago it developed a fault whereby the boot locked shut and wouldn't open with the remote central locking and the alarm to say that there is a door or boot open goes off constantly when the car is moving. It has been in Stevens Vauxhall, Crawley for 2 days and they say it is the roof control unit and the cost to replace this is nearly £500. I know there was a recall for the roof and rear brake light on the boot but I can't find any details of what year or models were recalled. I asked Stevens today and they were adamant it was 57 models that were recalled but a member of this site has posted above to say his 56 Twintop was recalled and repaired by Vauxhall for the roof problem. I want to make sure mine wasn't one that should have been recalled before I spend nearly £500..surely if a 56 plate was recalled and Vauxhall didn't start making the Twintop until 2006 then an 06 (manufactured 6 months before) would also have been recalled? Please can anyone help..before Friday if possible. Thanks Nikki

I have an 08 plate TT.

My advice: Register with the Astra Twintop owners club online. It's full of useful info.
My TT leaks in the boot (the seal has been replaced once) and where the fake "B" pillar, between the driver and passenger windows, meets the roof (on both sides) causing wet rear passenger foot mats and carpet. The TT owners club suggested cleaning all the seals with "Pledge", as it has silicon in it. I have wiped all my seals lightly with silicon grease (don't use loads!) and it seems to work. I am just about to invest in a car cover as well as my TT won't go in the garage (too long and the doors are too wide to open). I now do not use it as a daily runabout so I do conceed that a cover is a pain for daily use, but as my TT has to sit outside then I think its worth it.

I regularly use Scotts silicon oil, applied with a cotton bud, to all the joints on the roof and boot and have never experienced roof jams as some have reported on the TT forums. It takes about 30 mins to do all of them by opening the roof partially (not for long as the roof doesn't like it) and oiling the joints. I am afraid it's one of the "joys" of convertable ownership. I also lube the door hinges and bonnet.

Creaking of the bodywork (or "scuttle shake") is normal on TTs. On any car, when you chop the roof off you remove a load of structual stiffness too. Effectively the chassis is free to twist. Look under the body to see the two strengthing bars running from the body centre to the rear wheels. "Tin top" Astras don't have them but TTs do - for this reason.

The other thing that TT owners are compalining about is two dents appearing in the metal sections eitherside of the rear window. I have not experienced this but the consensus on the forum is that its a design fault rather than driver mis-use.

BTW my TT came new from Pentagon Burton-on-Trent and they have been excellent.
