    Hi ,
    Does anybody out there know how to adjust the handbrake on a Mk4 astra cdti , it is getting a bit loose and i need to tighten it up ASAP.

    Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

    Hi Del,

    You can tighten the cable by lifting the cover that is under the handbrake and tightening the cable nut you will see.

    Do you have drums or disks on the back....? Have you checked the condition of the shoes or pads...? May need replaced, but if they are OK you can tighten the handbrake as described

    I was always led to beleive you had to adjust the shoes in the hub first, then adjust up the handbrake cable afterwards. This is the case for the Cavalier anyway.

    the rear shoes should be self adjusting it worth having a look at the rear shoes as thay may be nackard

    handbrake cable can be adjusted as above also there maybe a adjuster on the rear beam inspect the hand brake cable while you at it
