    Hello,

Boroboy seems to know his stuff on these but can he or somebody confirm if it is worth cleaning the EGR valve on the petrol car or should I just unplug it or replace it?

How many screws does the H have on it? Some posts say 2 and some say 4!

Do you need a new gasket if you clean it and can you buy from a cheaper source than main dealers which cost £15!

    Hi

I don't know about the amount of screws etc but I would say clean it first, saves you the £40+ of buying a new one, apparently carburetor cleaner is good for cleaning them. Then if it doesn't work just replace it, only cost yourself a few quid in buying a can of the carburetor cleaner and your time doing it.

Just done a quick search on google and halfords sell it for £5.49 link below.

I've not changed one on a H. Cleaned one on my previous 1.6 8v G using carb cleaner. I re-used org gasket. wasn't the egr valve in the end enyway, was the coilpack. I didn't have any codes to go off at the time. Just running lumpy for the first two mins or so.
If I was certain it was the EGR valve, I'd just change it anyway rather than trying to clean it & use a new gasket. Have you tried fleabay? Do you any codes stored? Have you tried the pedal test to find codes?

You cant clean an EGR on a petrol astra mate its completely sealed off, you will be wasting your time, buy a new one and fit a new gasket
