    Hi everyone,

Recently bought an used Opel Astra H (1.7 CDTI) (74 kW, 100 HP) it has 164 000 km on the clock.. It's my first diesel and it's a bit noisy but I've heard it's common for 1.7CDTI engines..

The thing few "experts" have told me is not okay and doesn't seem normal to me is that when I drive at low revs (at 1500-2000) and press the throttle suddenly to 1/2 or 3/4, or floor it, revs climb to aprox 2100 and then I hear this strange click sound from the engine, its hard to describe, coming from the middle or the right side of the engine.. couldn't quite locate it.. it's like metal hits an another metal.. immediately after that sound, the turbo kicks in, and a "puff" of smoke appears from the exhaust.. and if I keep accelerating there is no visible smoke, just that initial "puff" (a small cloud of smoke).. color of smoke is dark grey - black or something.. sometimes there is no this sound (then there is no "puff's" and no smoke from the exhaust).. and sometimes there are two of these "clicks" (and still one "puff" of smoke )..

Is this normal or something is wrong? If something is wrong, what could be wrong?

Thanks in advance to everyone that posts here and tries to help..

Here is the video on which the sound apperas.. pay attention to 00:16 and 00:23

Guess I wouldn't know, but figured I would listen to the sound on the video.

It doesn't sound like a very loud click (darn turn indcator is loud) but I think I can hear what you mean - could it just be some solenoid clicking? Wouldn't that make sense - I can see a turbo solenoid valve mentioned for the Z17DTL. But what do I know

dunno, but it could.. I also agree it could be related to the turbo, like some valve that opens at the time the turbo turns on because the sound is heard just before the turbo kicks in..

Listen to the sound after I turn off the turn indicator (after 13 sec, before 17 sec) at exactly 16 sec you can hear this sound clearly..

yeah, that's why I mentioned the turbocharger solenoid valve

I already heard the click at 16 sec., just saying its just a quieter than the turn indicator befor it.

thx for the reply dude.. just read somewhere it's normal, and lots of people heard it in their own astras.. does anybody knows if this is true?

Is there anyone with an Astra 1.7 cdti (100HP)? Do you have this noise?
