ive corrected the z20se ,hit wrong button,i only used the word ecotec to identify 16v as that is the word most will see when they see the rocker cover,no 8v was ever a ecotec, the 17d and 17dr are genuine engine codes,i work for a vauxhall dealer so do have access to a lot of info and do use these engine codes a lot

lots of 8v's were/are ecotecs, and i cant remember seeing 17d and 17dr on EPC? all engines since 1992 (iirc) have to meet certain euro regulations, and the engine code should have a letter infront of it to signify which regulations it meets eg C X Z or Y,

the only 8v ecotec is fitted to a vectra,it is a diesel,no petrol 8v engine has ever been designated ecotec even the z16se,if you cant find 1.7d and 1.7dr then you are not looking,it is there and i do use epc daily, how would i identify the early diesels with that ident? and the engine idents are on the engine no,you are wrong in that all engines since 1992 a code before the engine size, the 1.7d and 1.7dr didnt as they didnt have a cat hence the x17dtl which did.i do work for a vauxhall parts department and have done so for 18 years

    Andy,
Clarification of cambelt change intervals for all Vauxhall petrol engines from 97-2002.

I've just rung customer services again & they explained to me that they'd made a mistake & that it's 80,000 miles or 8 yrs for the 1.6 8v. 40,000 or 4 yrs for the Ecotec's.

1.2 Astra G is not on the market in Britain as a Vauxhall. I know however that in The Netherlands it is as an Opel, and at the same time the 1.4 16V (Z14XE) has never been sold over there. Not sure about other countries

Astra Idle Problem, Please Help Me

Hi, im hoping you would be able to help me out with this problem that i am having with my 1999 Astra 1.8 16v Sport.
I bought the car as a insurance damaged car with the intention to put it back on the road.
The problem that i have is when the car is idling it starts to miss and splutter with the engine light appearing when this happens.
Often the fault would then clear if i was to give a dab on the throttle until im idling again.
I have checked the spark plugs and they look fine but are rather black.

Any ideas what i should do next?

    Cheers,
    Tim.

Mk 4 Astra 1.6 16v was X16XEL from launch through to Aug 2000.

    Z16XE didn't come in until Sep 2000.
