Hi I've got a 2005 55 plate Astra 1.7cdti I'm experiencing intermittent power loss on long runs or when I go over 70 this coincides with the engine management light coming on but as soon as the light goes out the powers back. I took it in to my local Vauxhall dealer where they hooked it up to the computer but found no fault, now is it me being sceptical or are they just waiting for the warranty to end ;)

    Can anyone help please?

    cheers

This is becoming more of a common problem on the 1.7cdti's, when reaching 70mph, EML comes on, car goes into 'limp' mode causing a power loss, drop down below 50mph, car goes back to normal, no fault codes stored. And everytime this has happened it has been a blocked EGR Valve fault, you need to take it off, give it a good clean up with Carb Cleaner, then replace with new gasket, this has always solved the problem on many other 1.7cdti's.

What car doesn't suffer from EGR problems? Garages must be making an absolute fortune from EGRs: we've put it on the computer sir and found nothing, we'll have to perform a detailed investigation which'll result in changing various expensive (£££££££££) bits that'll have obsolutely nothing to do with the problem whatsoever!

the egr valve on my astra 1.6 8v had been replaced and 7000 miles later it had went faulty but had not stored any fault codes the second time round. i wasnt buying another b*stard egr valve but vx kindly re-called it, blanked the egr off and de-activated it on the ecu.

In my experience, and as I've said previously on this forum, if the EGR is sticking or stuck open the ECU won't produce an error code or dashboard light, but it will have definite affect on performance - possibly undriveable. But if the EGR is sluggish to open it will result in a dashboard light but have no noticeable affect on performance whatsoever.

It is not an easy job on the cdti, You have to drain the coolant and remove the battery and carrier plus a number of other things. The dti egr is easy to get at not so the cdti.

Agree Delbert ... they have made fortunes from replacemnt EGR valves.
I used to have an old 1.6 8v ... cleaned the EGR every month (& the throttle body) with that wynns stuff...never had a problem then.

The warranty doesn't run out till the end of the year so I'll let the dealership foot the bill .
