Hi guys, As you may remember this car snapped it's cambelt in January. That was all fixed and everything's been fine, running great for four months. A couple of days ago I was accelerating hard and the car lost power, management light came on, then power started to "splutter" back. For a minute or so, every time I accelerated the management light would flash and the car would gradually accelerate, but felt like the engine was "missing" (not as jerky as proper misfiring, kind of stuttering). It cleared up slightly and the managment light stayed on all the time, no flashing.
So far, I've changed the spark plugs and reset the management light (which came straight back on a few minutes later). Light now still on an car is totally normal the first minute or so when you start it first thing. Then after that the jerkiness comes back unless you drive like grandad! or if you floor it the power comes back at about 3500 rpm.
Any ideas? a local car nut reckons MAF sensor or throttle position sensor???
I have ordered a obd2/CAN code reader to find out the fault codes, should this show a code for either of these problems?

There's been a slight development... now when I accelerate the managment light flashes, and when I lift off it stops? does this mean anything?

    Thanks...!!

Right then, my OBD2 reader arrived today, so I plugged it in and got 2 codes... the first was n/a!! the second P0302 - cylinder number 2 misfire detected. Does anyone have any ideas what would be causing this... I thought coil pack, but what other causes are there?
Interestingly when I cleared the code and took it for a drive, the missing didn't start for a minute or so?????

    Please help!!!!

I only had my S/H Zafira 1.6 club a few weeks when it started to miss and go into limp home mode with the EML on .It was the coil pack , it was changed under a warranty and all has been well since [crossed fingers] .Have you tried another coil pack ? Is the one you have now the original ?

Rickt, thanks for your reply. Yes it is the original coil pack... I'm going to try and borrow one off a working zaf 1.6, that's about the same age as mine. I'm trying to rule out as much as I can without buying loads of bits randomly!!

So far I know that it isn't...

    Spark plugs - replaced
    Air filter - just done
    Oil etc...
Cylinder head - just rebuilt, has run fine for 6000 miles and the throttle body and breathers were all cleaned out.
EGR valve - done recently since the last one failed...

I will swap the coil pack tonight and see what's what...
If anyone else has any suggestions, feel free!!!

Well, I fiited the next door neighbour's coil pack to my car.... sorted I drove about 10 miles at varying speeds and aggression.
The best price I've found for a genuine Delphi coil pack is £63 inc postage... so got one ordered.

I'd say that is very cheap . I priced a one last year and it was going to be about £125. Mine was changed under warranty and has been OK since , but for that price it pays to keep one spare . They say it can be a common problem with these Zafira's ,all to do with heat ..........there right on top of the engine and can suffer .

update: curious as to where I could find a cheap coil pack and have done a google search . Ebay has come up with a new one for £33 . Blooming heck .....that's cheap .Details below :
Vauxhall 1.4 and 1.6 16v Ignition Coil Pack

Yes, it is cheap. It isn't genuine though.........and when the resin melts and your misfire comes back, you'll wish you bought genuine first time around.o_O
