I am having trouble with getting the black stereo surround which is attached to the switch panel.Can anyone tell me how to detach the case from the switches?

easy peasy. right, if my memory right..

take stereo out.
take cage out
two screws left and right side. remove, this loosens top half
carefully , and i mean careful, prise out fascia at bottom, will pop off, removing bottom corner buttons can help, these just pull out, with a pick on one side etc.

and refit as remove etc.
