How chuffed am I!
Been having a blowing noise from the exhaust for over a month now and was really worried that the cause would be a cracked manifold.
Bit the bullet today and removed the rear plenum, EGR valve, left hand loom, heatshield and secondary air pipe to discover a cracked EGR pipe. This was of course a huge sigh of relief.
Removed the broken pipe and then fitted a large enough nut upside down in the covering nut, accompanied with a few washers and a hefty short bolt surrounded by gun gum, refitted and sealed off the bottom of the EGR valve with a custom cut blanking plate.
Refitted everything and started her up and its already noticeable quieter. Very pleased considering I only came away with the skin removed from one knuckle, all in all it took about 3 hours from start to finish.
A big thankyou to Goonas and the other guys who have fed me advice on this problem, without you guys I'd still be scratching my head or booking it into a garage. I'd hate to think of the cost involved if I'd done that.
Fitted the remaining closure wire to the Omega sunroof kit supplied br Delerium which is now working a total treat. Thinking of visiting the scrappie tomorrow to find myself a F**d fuel relay to make a total closure kit to finish the whole thing off.
All in all a very happy chappie, doesn't it make you feel good when you fix something!
