Hi,

Would anyone be able to tell me if changing the starter motor is an easy job and if possible how to do it?
Just had the crank sensor done and now the bloody starter motor has packed in.

Cheers.

Its quite easy.

You didnt say what engine you got but lets use my 1.8 as an example im sure its not that different.

1. Disconnect battery and jack up car.
2. Remove undercover from engine unit.
3. Remove 2 nuts and wiring from Starter motor solenoid.
4. Unscrew retaining nut and disconnect earth from starter motor upper bolt.
5. Remove remaining bolts and pull out motor.

Obviously refitting is just reverse.

At the end of the day mate if you knack it up just take it to garage at least you had a shot at sorting it.

Well i couldn't find time to do it so took it to garage. It's done alright but apparently a bit has snapped off the old motor and all the bearings have fallen into the gearbox!! Anyone ever heard of this sort of thing happening?? I assume i shouldn't drive the thing now.
