Mate of mine selling this if you're interested...........

Spent about £1k on this engine about a year before deciding I really wanted another 24v'er. It's still in the car so can be heard running and could be driven, just not on the Queen's highway. But unfortunately the whole car has to go 'cos I need the space back.

So here's the low-down:

Bottom-end has covered 160k miles but oil has been changed religously every 3-4k with VX semi-synthetic.

Cylinder head was sent off to Mr Bill Blydenstein to have enlarged inlets & exhausts fitted and have him generally breathe his magic on it.
Head was then re-built using all new valve train components and a Courtenay Sport Hi-Torq cam (I am told this is really a Piper 270deg). Water pump was also replaced on re-assembly. It may be worth noting Bill Blydenstein is now retired so you cannot get one of these "new".

Rolling roaded after about 5k and she was producing 98bhp AT THE WHEELS. Assuming a normal transmission loss of about 1/3, that gives 147bhp at the flywheel. This was running on the STANDARD ECU and what was later found to be a dodgy fuel pump. Not surprisingly, after the fuel pump was replaced, it pulled even better but I never got round to getting it back on the rollers, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's actually putting out 150bhp but I have no evidence of this - I do have the RR report showing the 98bhp at the wheels though.

I'm sure there could be further gains to be made from fitting an 'uprated' ECU chip and that was the direction I was heading before I bought the GSi.

The gearbox has also covered 160k but doesn't make any strange noises and it's only fault is that it crunches a bit going into 2nd or 3rd, I can't remember which, if you're a bit lazy on the clutch. The clutch was replaced about 30k ago.

I'd aslo like to point out that the 20SE engine was also used in the Cavalier and Astra so all you'd need to use it as FWD would be a suitable gearbox.

Ideally I'm looking for £350 but I'm well aware that things are only worth what somebody is willing to pay so feel free to make me an offer so long as it's not insulting.
