Hi there,

I hope someone may be of help.

I started her up this morning and pulled away, when I came to stop at a junction the revs went up to about 1100 rpm and does not drop below that whilst driving, normally about 650rpm at a standstill. When I arrived at work and put it into park the revs started hopping up and down from 1100 upto 2000 rpm.
I have not had any work done on it lately so nothing could have been disturbed.
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas to what it could be.

Thanks
PS No fault codes showing.

Try cleaning the idle control valve with carb cleaner. It is situated on the rear of the inlet manifold and held on by two bolts

Thanks for the info.

Can you let me know what it looks like, I don't want to disturb something I shouldn't.

Thanks.

Deffinitley the IAC valve.
Remove that big black pipe that runs to the top of your engine to the air filter. Underneath that look for a silver almost match box shaped thing attatched side on to the carb. It is in two parts, and has two screws one at top and one at bottom they are allen key fittings.
Remove that and seperate it and clean it, prob better to soak over night in carb cleaner. Put back on and hey presto all sorted.

It really is that easy, a 20 min job.

I will have a look tomorrow after work, don't want to do something wrong and be without car for work.

Thanks again.

I know what your saying, you can take comfort in the fact that as long as you put everything back where it came from then you cant really do any lasting damage. The IAC valve is practically a solid block of metal that has been semi hollowed out.
Even if you knack it you can pick them up on eBay for about a tenner or from scrappers for about the same.
Good luck though.

another thing it could be is a faulty lambda/oxygen sensor... try disconnecting it... if idling problem stops replace the sensor with a genuine vauxhall one
