Hi all,

I recently bought a 98 Vectra 1.8 LS. I knew the remote central locking was not functioning correctly and I was told I required a new driver side door lock unit. I obtained one of these and have fitted it, however it has not solved the problem.

Basically, when the keyfob is pressed, you can hear the mechanism trying to work and see the indicators flashing, but it neither locks nor unlocks any of the doors. Now I've been told I need to replace some kind of box in the drivers footwell... I haven't gone looking for this yet as I feel this guy who is giving me advice may well be spouting BS and I'd rather get some other opinions before I spend another sunny afternoon ripping out panels from my Vectra :(

Perhaps I could have some other opinions as to what the problem may be caused by and how I would go about fixing it with the least possible cost.

Thanks in advance.

Daniel.

this is a common prob for a lot of people. Have you tried resetting it? Some people say that you have to pack out the fob with paper to keep the connections together but mine still doesnt work doin that either. Have given up and just lock it manually now.

The problem is not with the keyfob itself as the car responds to the lock and unlock buttons when they are pressed as you can hear the mechanism doing *something* and the indicators flash.

Can anyone shed any further light?

UPDATE: For anyone interested... I investigated the Alarm/Remote Central Locking module that is located in the right side of the drivers footwell. Took it out, blew it and shook it a bit and then put it back in.

Now my central locking works! I have made a mental note to only buy German cars from this day forward.
